Laserfibre MS200 ECO:  Prepurchase

Applying Tension to the String | Miscellaneous Pictures | Initial Impression

Hi ya folks,

Here's a quick account and  photo bio of my experience with the Laserfibre tennis stringer.  Hope you find it useful.

I break strings on a regular basis.  And with the cost of a professional string job costing about $40, I started looking into stringing the racquets myself.  I don't intend to string racquets beyond my immediate family's.   This stringer will be strictly for personal use.  I don't plan on stringing for my friends.  And I surely don't have illusions of becoming a professional stringer.  I don't want to stock up on a slew of strings and related items (grommets, grips, etc.) to cater to different player preferences.  I also don't want to have to deal with breaking someone's racquet whether it be my fault or due to an already failing or cracked frame.

After scouring the web for info on the model that suits my needs, I decided on the Laserfibre MS200 ECO.

My reasons for choosing this stringer are as follows:

  • Quality professional-grade solid construction
  • Patented Smart Weight™ One-Pull Constant Pull tensioning system
  • Topnotch flying clamps
  • Secure mounting system
  • Simple to use
  • Portability
  • Easy disassembly and reassembly
  • Mechanical and not electrical (no electronics and motor to replace ever)
  • 10 year warranty
  • High resale
  • Highly recommended by owners and professionals
  • Lasefibre's OUTSTANDING customer service and support!

Prior to ordering the ECO with flying clamps, I corresponded quite a bit with Tim Sullivan of Laserfibre.  He was very helpful and patient with my questions.  He was very thorough in educating me about the nuances of the various types and models of stringers, strings, and related tools with respect to the art of stringing.

Although I could have ordered the standard ECO Traveler version with a single slim steel beam turntable, I chose .... I insisted on getting the cast aluminum turntable.  Thanks to pro stringer Jaycee at stringforum.net for helping me with this choice.

The aluminum turntable is meant for the ECO with fixed clamps.  So, why get the aluminum turntable when I'm buying one with flying clamps?   I chose it for a few reasons:  improved rigidity, upgradeability, and better resale value.

Choosing the aluminum turntable is not driven by the advantage of a more rigid frame.  That's just a side benefit by virtue of having a bigger and sturdier frame.  I chose the bigger turntable more for the ability to upgrade from flying clamps to fixed clamps. If I ever choose to get fixed clamps in the future, all I'd have to do is get the rails and the clamps. With a standard traveler version, I'd be better off selling the whole kit and buying a fixed clamp system. And speaking of selling, Laserfibres are prized machines.  You'd be hard pressed to find a used one for sale. Owners just don't let go of them.  So, if I ever have to sell it in the future, the upgraded turntable would make it even easier to sell.
