Convergence
<< Back to Samsung Tips
Tip by Mitchell Weatherly
I have a Samsung HCJ552W (a 55" widescreen, HDTV-ready RPTV), and I have a
"tip" that is closely related to your posted tip about the service menu.
Normally, my set permits convergence only by aligning a cross-hair pattern in the
center of the screen. Unfortunately, converging the center of the screen does not work for
the entire screen, and the set does not have any type of "automated" convergence
routine.
To enter the full-blown convergence mode, one must press mute (with power on or off)
and then press 183. A convergence grid appears on screen and the remote control permits
the user to adjust convergence on any particular intersection in the grid. I cannot
remember off the top of my head what all the buttons on the remote do in this mode, but
the service manual does have a "map" of the remote buttons when used in this
convergence mode. If necessary, I could provide more info about this map because I have
used the remote for convergence many times.
When in convergence mode, pressing the "1" button on the remote causes the
convergence settings to revert to factory "zero" (i.e., no convergence
compensation), pressing the "2" button causes the convergence settings to revert
to the factory default (terrible settings on my TV), and pressing "3" causes the
convergence settings to revert to the previously saved settings. Also, saving the settings
requires pressing the "Add/Erase" button under the sliding cover on the bottom
half of the remote. I can't provide any more than that in the time I've got, but these
"keys" will help." |
